Christine McDougall, Authentic Leadership and Profound CommunicationChristine McDougall, MCC

Christine McDougall is an expert in facilitating authentic leadership and profound communication through her work delivering international training programs and coaching executives.

Christine is a Master Certified Coach, the highest international commendation awarded to coaches by the International Coach Federation. She is one of the leaders in coaching in Australia and New Zealand, with ten years full time experience. She was the first coach in Australia and New Zealand to receive the qualification of Master Certified Coach.

Her work is leading edge, combining a systemic perspective with daring and compassion, using models such as Wilber’s integral theory, Buckminster Fuller’s systems theory, developmental models including spiral dynamics, and her own models supporting unconditional responsibility, cultures of commitment, appreciative inquiry processes and the ability to speak the truth with compassion.

Recently, Christine developed the Dare to Care programme which has been delivered to hundreds of people in Australia, New Zealand, and the USA.

Dare to Care transforms the way managers communicate at all levels, from junior to the most senior executives. The programme teaches people to become aware of how they are perceived by others and to become more conscious of the impact and consequences of their communications. Having this awareness enables people to make choices about changing any aspects of their communication which may not be serving themselves and/or their constituencies. Dare to Care also supports individuals and groups to implement changes in order to communicate more effectively with clarity, integrity and “heart”. Ultimately, the new ways of communicating lead to better relationships, more effective problem solving, enhanced negotiation skills, an open and trusting workplace and greater skill in dealing with difficult workplace situations and conflict.

Christine would describe herself as a permanent student, working on her own lifelong master’s degree. She currently is exploring the fields of economics and alternate currencies, world politics, archetypal and mythological studies, including Jung, Cambell and Myss, emergent models of business, systemic cultural change, natural design, geometry, history and perennial philosophy.

She is a certified Level Two Spiral Dynamics practitioner and teaches a Spiral Dynamics experiential workshop. She is also certified in DISC, PIAV and Reiss Values Profile.

Christine holds a Bachelor’s Degree as a Doctor of Chiropractic from Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, 1983.

Her corporate clients include Australia and New Zealand based mulitnationals in banking, finance and real estate and include: A.N.Z. Bank, NAB, St George Bank, Remax and Australia Post. She has lectured to MBA students at both Bond University and Queensland Institute of Technology. Her individual clients are located around the world. Christine has conducted over ten thousand hours of coaching with senior executives both face to face and via the telephone. Business leaders seek Christine out because of her extraordinary ability to inspire people to speak and act with truth, responsibility, integrity, courage and love. Christine’s ideas combine practical application with philosophical and spiritual depth.

Christine has been a Board member of the International Coach Federation (USA) for five years, in her last year in the position of Vice President. She was the inaugural President of the International Coach Federation Australasia. These roles gave her experience in working within a not for profit organization, working virtually with groups around the world, and working with the natural design of a global start up business. Christine is on the editorial board of the International Journal for Coaching in Organizations, the first professional coaching journal to be published and distributed worldwide. Once a year, Christine joins 60 executive coaches from around the world for the Executive Coaching Summit, an invitation only event comprised of a diverse global network of senior executive development experts researching and integrating best practices in the field. Christine is also a founding member of the International Consortium for Coaches in Organizations. She has been a keynote speaker at many coaching events around the world, plus other industry bodies, including Institutes of Management and Human Resources.

Christine has been a business owner and entrepreneur since she was 24 years old, with experience prior to executive coaching and training in professional services and manufacturing, both locally and internationally.

She has travelled extensively, particularly within North America, making the trip across the Pacific over 45 times.

Christine lives on the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia, with her 16-year-old daughter Natalie. Beyond her work, Christine enjoys travelling, and outdoor activities, which include running, swimming and snowboarding. She has completed over 16 marathons and three ultra-marathons and an Ironman Triathlon. Without a doubt, her endurance sport has contributed to her value as a coach, in the spiritual, physical, emotional and mental domains.

Jerome R. Summers
Associate
Chicago, USA

Jerome started his first business at age seventeen and has owned and operated several businesses ever since. As a business owner, coach, and trainer, his personal mission is to bring humanity back into business.

Over the years Jerome has been an investor, an international public speaker and seminar presenter, as well as a personal and business coach. He currently holds a publicly elected position as a school board member in Evanston Illinois. He is chairman of the Finance Committee with oversight responsibility for a budget of over US$85million. The school district has about 7000 students.

Beyond his ‘work’, Jerome is a big believer in young people. Through his past retail enterprises he taught inner city youngsters how to actually run his businesses. After two years he would kick them out of the nest so they could grow. Several of those young people went on to start and manage their own businesses.

Jeromes’ work with young people has helped to formulate his belief that learning is a process of discovery and that people are already smart enough to identify solutions which are harmonious with their skills and goals. He doesn’t seek to provide answers. His approach is to ask good questions, as this usually leads to more than one good answer. Because he looks for the greatness in others, he expects more of them than they do of themselves. He challenges people to become better than they are today.

Jerome graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Horticulture from Alabama A&M University. He paid his own way through college and was debt free upon completion. He also takes at least one class every six months and has done so for over twenty-five years since graduating from college. “The world keeps on turning so I have to keep on learning.”

Jerome was born and raised in a large extended family in Evanston Illinois, a northern suburb of Chicago. He recently bought his family home in the neighborhood where they have lived for over 100 years.

He is a husband, father, grandfather, and all around great guy (smile).

Yvonne McLean
Auckland, New Zealand
Associate

Yvonne McLean is an Executive Coach with a wealth of experience of working with senior managers and staff at all levels.  Yvonne has worked both in New Zealand and internationally.  Until she and her family returned to New Zealand to live in late 2003, Yvonne was the lead lawyer in the UK Legal team of Microsoft Limited and was a member of the company’s Executive Management team.

Having worked for Microsoft for over 7 years, Yvonne has a good understanding of what it takes to be successful in a large global and fast moving company.  She worked closely with the Senior Executives and Managers at Microsoft and helped them deal with issues they were facing.  She has personal experience of working with colleagues and superiors based at a regional HQ in another country and in other countries within a geographical region.    Yvonne also managed and coached a team of staff and external lawyers on secondment to the company.  She therefore comes with a practical understanding of the challenges that leaders and their teams face in the rapidly evolving business world.

Yvonne studied Modern Languages at Oxford University.  She majored in German and speaks both German and French fluently.  She qualified as a lawyer in both the UK and New Zealand.  Her practical training comprised a year in a small shipping firm in the City of London, where she was able to use her languages, and then a second year in the Company/Commercial and Property departments at Linklaters.  She then worked as a litigation lawyer, specialising in Intellectual Property, at Richards Butler in the City of London for a number of years before immigrating to New Zealand in 1990.  She re-qualified in New Zealand and practised as an Intellectual Property litigation lawyer, first at Russell McVeagh and then at Chapman Tripp.  Whilst she was at Chapman Tripp, she was invited to apply for the newly created position of senior lawyer at Microsoft in the UK.  She returned to the UK to join Microsoft Limited in 1996.

With a background as a lawyer for just over 20 years, Yvonne’s training and experience has taught her to sift through large amounts of information and distil the important issues quickly and efficiently.  She is very skilled at making sense of a mass of information (or chaos) and at finding ways to order it.  She has coached and mentored people throughout her working career.  She now coaches full time in her own business, Strategic Direction Consulting Limited.

Yvonne enjoys facing challenges and knows what it takes to step out of her comfort zone: she has lived and worked in Germany and has shifted between the UK and New Zealand a couple of times.  In all of her moves, she has had to establish a new network of friends and colleagues and adapt to change.

Since returning to New Zealand, Yvonne has decided to make a career change to enable her to build on her interest in developing people and create more balanced time for her family commitments.  She is now also a Certified NLP Practitioner and is an accredited Professional Behaviour Analyst, using the DISC Tool.

Before having a family, Yvonne did a substantial amount of voluntary work for a Citizens Advice Bureau in London.  Since returning to New Zealand, she has been actively involved in helping her children’s school in its fundraising activities.  She currently also mentors a teenage girl on the YWCA Future Leader’s Programme.

Yvonne has a relaxed and empathetic coaching style.   She is also not afraid to challenge her clients whenever necessary.   Her objective as a coach is to grow the individual she is coaching and to focus on helping each person achieve their successful outcomes.
