  The Kokoda Challenge

In our modern corporate world it is rare to get the opportunity to take an integral approach to team development and to really challenge and stretch the physical, the emotional and the mental capacities.

The Kokoda Challenge is an opportunity to do just that.

We offer two ways to participate in an outdoor, very challenging integral team experience.

1. You and your team can participate in a weekend or two day mini experience in the Gold Coast (Queensland Australia) hinterland. Each day we will cover about 21 kilometers of hilly terrain. The scenery is beautiful. At the end of the day will be a debrief around the campfire.

2. With your team of up to 12 people, who must all be at a certain level of health and fitness to start, you will walk the Kokoda trail, guided by the best of the best, all locals.

During the Challenge, you will have the opportunity to learn about yourself, your inner storyteller, the part of you that lets you down, lets others down, and wants to quit. You will also learn how to transcend the small part of you that is self focused, and be of service to your team mates.

Your emotional, spiritual and mental guide will be Christine McDougall, multiple marathon runner, Ultra marathon runner, Ironman, and highly experienced executive and team coach.

Christine understands the inner journey. She knows the lies we tell ourselves, the games we play, the choices we make to take the easy path. Christine chooses to run marathons because it is when everything hurts, when the mind is screaming to stop, to give it up, that we get to deal with the deepest part of ourselves. The part that is lazy, indulgent, and fear based. (Not all life is about taking the road less travelled, there is also a time to be indulgent and lazy, the question is: "Does the laziness have us, or do we have it?" Who is in control?)

There is a deep beauty to overcoming the small part of ourselves and walking the path less travelled.

Mastery of ourselves and our will is the starting point. From here we can be of true service to others. Our thinking and actions are now capable of going beyond self.

There are four parts to the Kokoda Challenge:

Part 1

The Choice
The team makes the choice to participate, sets a date, makes the financial commitment. The Challenge starts on this day.

Part 2

The Commitment
With commitment comes action.
You first get a medical check up and the OK to participate.
Your team will meet with Christine for a half day or day.
On the agenda, what are the team goals for this experience?
What are your personal goals?
What are your fears?
We will also meet with the Kokoda Challenge Personal Trainer, an experienced Kokoda Trail trekker, who will give you all individual and team programs in preparation.

Part 3

Walk the Kokoda Trail
During the walk there will be discussion, debriefs, and opportunity for learning about how you respond to adversity.

Part 4

The Debrief
One month after the Challenge is complete, there will be a one day debriefing session.
Together we will explore all of the learnings, how it has changed you, how it has changed the team, and how to continue these changes in your life.

Travel arrangements for the Challenge are handled with the utmost care and experience by World Travel Professionals, a member of the Virtuoso group of travel agents, reflecting the highest standard of service.
